Internacionalização da Arca Continental no negócio de snacks

The results of Arca Continental’s internationalization in the snack business showed ups and downs in some indicators.

In the United States, its subsidiary Wise Foods has a production plant located in Berwick, Pennsylvania. This plant operated 13 production lines at the end of 2023. Also there, Arca Continental had 11 distribution centers (CEDIs), 8 fewer than at the end of 2022.

On November 9, 2020, this parent company signed a strategic agreement for its operations in the United States. This long-term agreement involves one of the largest maquiladoras in North America. As a result, manufacturing and distribution capacities increased considerably.

Ecuador is the other country where Arca Continental has production facilities outside Mexico.

There, as of December 31, 2023, its subsidiary Inalecsa had two production plants, located in Guayaquil and Quito.

These plants integrate 27 production lines. Between the end of 2022 and 2023, the company added nine more delivery units, to reach 139. Also in Ecuador, the company operates 18 CEDIs (three are its own CEDIs and 15 are Dipor’s) and a corporate office building.

Snacks

However, its subsidiary NAYHSA had three snack production plants in Mexico at the end of 2023. These are located in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León; Ciudad Obregón, Sonora; and Iturbide, Guanajuato. Together, these factories have 25 production lines.

What do they produce? Peanuts, marzipan candies, fruit enchiladas, tortilla chips and corn tostadas. They also produce pork cracklings, wheat flour and potato cracklings, as well as extruded and fried corn.

NAYHSA has 56 CEDIs. It has 1,873 active delivery units. It also has two corporate office buildings in Nuevo León.

History

In January 2007, Arca Continental acquired the majority of NAYHSA’s shares. This decision was part of its strategy to add value by entering segments adjacent to its beverage business. NAYHSA is engaged in the production and marketing of snacks. It uses recognized brands such as “Bokados”, “Golos” and “Azteca”.

Its main competitors?

  • Sabritas, which is part of Pepsi.
  • Barcel, which belongs to Grupo Bimbo.
  • Botanas y Derivados, which belongs to Xignux.

NAYHSA was founded in 1973. The company began operations in Monterrey, Nuevo León, producing popsicles called “Frutaletas”.
