As três fábricas da Ternium no México e seus novos investimentos

With Ternium’s three plants in Mexico now operating in the states of Veracruz and Monterrey, the company is pursuing a $3.5 billion investment plan in the country.

In February 2023, Ternium announced that it would invest US$2.4 billion for a new plant at Ternium’s industrial center in Pesquería, to produce slabs, among other items.

Ternium’s new investments in Mexico have not been clearly specified.

Last February, the Ministry of Economy referred to several public investment announcements, among them Ternium’s announcement of 1.945 billion dollars.

But this week the Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, said in an interview with El Economista that the company is investing 3.5 billion dollars to expand one of its plants in Mexico.

In Mexico, the company has a fully integrated seamless pipe production plant, a threading plant and a pipe fitting plant.

In Mexico, its fully integrated seamless pipe production plant is located near Pemex‘s main exploration and drilling operations, approximately 13 kilometers from the port of Veracruz.

Located on a 650-hectare site, the plant includes two high-tech seamless steel pipe mills and has an installed annual production capacity of approximately 1 million 230,000 tons of seamless steel pipe (with an outside diameter range of 2 to 20 inches) and 1 million 200,000 tons of steel bars.

The Veracruz facilities include:

  • A steel mill, which includes an electric arc furnace.
  • A continuous rolling mill.
  • An automotive components production center.
  • A rolling mill with superior finishing technology (23/8 to 7 inches).
  • A pilgrim tube mill.
  • Six finishing lines, including heat treatment lines, upsetters and threading and inspection equipment.
  • A cold drawing plant.

In Veracruz, Ternium has a threading plant located near its fully integrated seamless pipe production plant, which produces premium fittings and accessories.

The company also operates a plant it acquired near Monterrey for the production of weldable fittings. This plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 15,000 tons.
