U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he plans to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada.

Initially, in his presidential campaign, Trump stated that this measure would be taken from the first day of his new administration.

On the eve of the election, Trump made a blunt promise. He announced that he would set a 25% tariff on all imports of products from Mexico. In addition, he indicated that this tax could increase up to 100% if necessary. This measure, according to him, will depend on President Claudia Sheinbaum stopping what he described as an “avalanche of criminals and drugs” to the United States.

This Monday, Trump reaffirmed his plan to set 25% tariffs on his two main trading partners.

His argument: “because (both nations) are allowing a lot of people and fentanyl” into the United States. He said as much while sitting in the Oval Office and signing executive orders. “I think we’ll do it on February 1,” he added.
