Trans-Mex drivers at Knight-Swift Transportation

Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings Inc. counted 1,700 Trans-Mex driver associates in Mexico who were represented by a union at the close of 2024.

That number grew from 800 Trans-Mex drivers in 2018, according to the company’s own data.

Knight-Swift Transportation is one of the largest and most diverse freight transportation companies in North America.

It offers full truckload, LTL freight, intermodal and other complementary solutions.

Trans-Mex drivers

Its strategy is based on three pillars: maintaining industry-leading margins, driving steady organic growth, and expanding through acquisitions. In addition, it seeks to offer safe, cost-effective, high-quality solutions for its customers.

Below is the trend in the number of Trans-Mex drivers at Knight-Swift Transportation: 

  • 2018: 800.
  • 2019: 900.
  • 2020: 900.
  • 2021: 1,300.
  • 2022: 1,500.
  • 2023: 1,500.
  • 2024: 1,700.

Drivers

To provide its services, Knight-Swift operates a national network of business units and terminals in the United States and Mexico.

In addition, the company has one of the largest full-truckload fleets in the United States.

Knight-Swift also collaborates with outside carriers to expand its services. This allows it to generate quality jobs for its driver associates and create successful opportunities for independent contractors.

The trend in the number of the company’s driving associates (including trainee drivers) is shown below:

  • 2018: 17,200. 
  • 2019: 17,600.
  • 2020: 17,400.
  • 2021: 19,400.
  • 2022: 19,500.
  • 2023: 25,100.
  • 2024: 25,100.

In addition to driving associates, the company had 1,500 technicians and other equipment maintenance personnel and 8,700 employees related to leadership, corporate and terminal support at the close of 2024.

During 2024, the company drove 1.8 billion loaded miles across North America. As a result, it achieved consolidated revenues of $7.4 billion. In addition, it reported operating income of US$243.4 million.

That same year, its Full Truckload segment operated an average of 22,791 tractor-trailers. Of these, 20,644 belonged to the company and 2,147 to independent contractors. In total, the company moved 92,831 trailers.

The LTL segment operated 3,569 tractor-trailers and 9,564 trailers.

Meanwhile, the Intermodal segment moved 615 tractor-trailers and 12,572 containers.

Finally, its four reportable segments are: Full Truckload, LTL Freight, Logistics and Intermodal.
