The Ministry of Economy announced on the eve of the cancellation of the Undersecretariat of Mining as of this September 1, 2020 within the framework of the austerity measures carried out by the federal government.

According to Inegi figures, the mining-metallurgical sector in Mexico represented 8.1% of the industrial GDP and 2.3% of the National GDP in 2019.

«We respectfully express our deep disagreement over the disappearance of a strategic organ for the economic recovery that our country needs,» Camimex said in a press release signed by other leading mining organizations.

Those organizations are: the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (CanCham); the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (AIMMGM); the Mining Clusters of Chihuahua, Guerrero, Sinaloa, Sonora and Zacatecas; the College of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (CIMMGM), and the organization Mujeres en la Minería-WIM México.

«The Undersecretariat of Mining has an indispensable role for transformation, it has served as an example to other sectors to demonstrate that close collaboration and the sum of wills can strengthen an industry that fully fulfills its commitment to Mexico and Mexicans by being socially inclusive , environmentally sustainable and fiscally responsible ”, they added.

Camimex and the other organizations reaffirmed their willingness to continue working hand in hand with the Federal Government and emphasized that it is essential to maintain high-level dialogue bridges for the benefit of the national economy and its urgent reactivation in the face of the challenges that are being faced. presenting.

They extended wide recognition to the work carried out by the Undersecretary of Mining, Francisco Quiroga Fernández, «who always proved to be a highly responsible, efficient and committed official with his country, as well as with the sector he represented.»
