Pemex has 19 clients in five countries for oil exports and imports in the world, according to information from the government of Mexico.
In 2020, crude oil exports increased in volume 1.5%, from 1 million 103,300 barrels per day in 2019 to 1 million 119,900 barrels per day in 2020.
At the same time, Pemex sold 601,700 barrels per day of its crude in the domestic market in the form of refined products, and exported the rest of the crude.
Customers
Total exports of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and petrochemicals from this oil company averaged $ 23.4 billion per year between 2016 and 2019 and were $ 16.2 billion in 2020.
As of December 31, 2020, P.M.I. Comercio Internacional, the company that manages international imports and exports of crude oil products for Pemex, had 19 clients in five countries.
Among these countries, in the past year, 58.9% of Pemex’s crude oil exports went to clients in the United States and Canada.
Since 2014, as a result of the increased availability of light crude in the United States and other developing trends in international demand for imported crude, Pemex has expanded the scope of its geographic distribution and adapted its strategy to diversify and strengthen the position of Mexican crude oil in the international market.
On January 16, 2015, pursuant to the provisions of the Eighth Transitory, section B, of the Mexican Petroleum Law (LPM) and the Fourth Transitory of its Regulations, Pemex officially notified the Inter-ministerial Commission for Public Expenditure, Financing and Disincorporation (CIGFD) that the Board of Directors, through Agreement CA-149/2014, adopted at its 885 Extraordinary session on December 19, 2014, authorized with effect from January 1, 2015, the transformation of PMI Comercio Internacional, S.A. de C.V., from a majority state-owned company to a subsidiary of Pemex, under the scheme provided for in Title Four of the LPM.
