Mexican auto parts company Nemak is working to have 100% of its facilities ISO 50001 certified by 2022.

Nemak is a leading provider of innovative lightweighting solutions for the global automotive industry. The company specializes in the development and manufacture of aluminum components. These components are used in powertrain, electric mobility, and structural applications.

To achieve its ultimate goal of net-zero emissions by at least 2050, the company has defined a strategy based on three pillars: Green Products, Green Production and Green Sourcing.

In addition, Nemak has developed a Decarbonization Maturity Model (DMM), which includes the establishment of specific targets in the areas of life cycle assessment (LCA), renewable energy share and several others.

Nemak: financial Results Summary

Nemak’s Decarbonization Strategy is guided by the DMM (Decarbonization Maturity Model). The strategy aims to address regional and local circumstances for effective global climate protection efforts. It goes beyond climate goals, incorporating circularity, waste management, and water management as key components of its sustainability objectives.

These environmental efforts are part of Nemak’s broader Sustainability Roadmap 2030. This roadmap sets specific targets for each area, including reducing carbon emissions, improving recycling and circular economy practices, and optimizing water usage. The company is committed to achieving these ambitious targets to create a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.

Nemak

Nemak’s Climate Strategy is centered around achieving ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with a commitment to Science-Based Targets (SBTs). By 2030, the company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 28% and Scope 3 emissions by 14%, based on 2019 levels.

To meet these goals, Nemak is focusing on environmental management and energy efficiency initiatives, guided by the ISO 50001 standard. The company has set a goal to have 100% of its facilities ISO 50001 certified by 2022.

Recognizing the importance of renewable energy, Nemak is committed to increasing its global use of renewable energy, aiming for 25% of total energy consumption by 2025, and 70% by 2030.

Regarding Scope 3 emissions, the company is actively tracking the use of recycled materials in its products, with approximately 70% of the materials currently being sourced from recycling. This aligns with Nemak’s broader sustainability goals, outlined in its Sustainability Roadmap 2030.
