Alfa highlighted the increase in violence in Mexico and described how this problem affects its operations.
In recent years, Mexico has faced high levels of crime. Most of it stems from organized crime, especially drug trafficking cartels. According to the company, this violence has intensified in the northern border with the United States, the southern Pacific coast, the southeast coast and part of the Yucatan peninsula.
Alfa
Alfa is a Mexican holding company founded in 1967. Its main offices are in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. By revenue volume, it is one of the largest industries in the country.
In the first quarter of 2025, its revenues totaled 42.705 billion pesos, a year-on-year increase of 14 percent. And its net income was Ps. 3.908 billion, an increase of 216 percent.
Alfa operated two divisions: Alpek (petrochemicals) and Sigma (food). On December 14, 2020, it completed the spin-off of Nemak (aluminum auto parts). Subsequently, on May 19, 2023, it spun off Axtel (information and communication technologies). Finally, Alpek also spun off Alfa.
The company said that in recent years, fuel theft in pipelines has increased, especially in central and southeastern Mexico. Although the government reinforced security with military and police forces, violence and organized crime continue, in its opinion, to affect the economy and generate instability.
This isolated criminality can disrupt the company’s operations, reduce its revenues and increase its costs. In addition, if the violence persists, the government could impose restrictions on transportation and border trade. In such a scenario, the national economy and the company’s financial prospects could be severely affected.
Alfa’s Measures
Alfa is implementing several measures to protect the security and continuity of its operations. First, it reinforced hygiene and sanitation protocols. In addition, it reduced personnel in plants through virtual collaboration. It also established physical distancing measures and travel restrictions.
In addition, Alfa coordinates its actions with third parties in the value chain. In this way, it adjusts operations to ensure the supply of essential products and services.
