The United States, China and France were Danone’s top markets worldwide in 2024, according to the company’s own data.

Danone, the smallest of the big three European food and beverage companies, leads in plant-based products. It also excels in specialized nutrition businesses. Today, 90% of its sales by volume come from healthy products. It is also among the three best-performing companies, according to the Global Access to Nutrition Index.

Above Danone is Nestlé (Switzerland), Europe’s largest food and beverage company, with brands such as Nescafé, KitKat, Purina and Maggi. This is followed by Unilever (Netherlands/UK), which offers food and personal care products, including Hellmann’s, Knorr, Ben & Jerry’s and Lipton.

The UBS Funds believes that the recent management overhaul and organic transformation plan will drive improvements in the company. Indeed, the simplification and reduction of stratifications will lead to greater efficiency. In turn, local management control will increase and silos between categories will disappear.

In 2024, Danone reported sales of €27,376 million, a decrease of 0.9% at the international rate.

Here are Danone’s main markets in 2024, as a percentage of its sales:

  1. United States: 21 percent.
  2. China: 11 percent.
  3. France: 8 percent.
  4. Indonesia: 6 percent.
  5. United Kingdom: 6 percent.
  6. Mexico: 5 percent.
  7. Spain: 4 percent.
  8. Germany: 4 percent.
  9. Poland: 3 percent.
  10. Brazil: 3 percent.

The interaction initiatives are aimed at raising the company’s standards in nutrition, product transparency and marketing. This will enable it to influence the industry and contribute to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) within the Healthy Markets Coalition.

The UBS Funds also works with the company to reduce the use of plastic in packaging, supporting SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
