México produzirá os primeiros freios elétricos para a América do Norte: INA

Mexico will produce the first electric brakes for North America, said Francisco González, executive president of Industria Nacional de Autopartes (INA).

González explained that this production will take place in Querétaro, although he did not specify the name of the company.

Electric brakes

“A company established in Querétaro is going to produce the first electric brakes for North America, they are no longer going to be hydraulic, they are going to be electric,” commented Gonazález this Wednesday, while participating in a press conference on the automotive industry environment and its supply chain, in the city of Querétaro.

Electric brakes for cars are an advanced braking technology. Unlike the traditional hydraulic system, they work with electricity to activate the brakes.

Below are Mexican exports of brakes to the world (including parts and brake servos), in millions of dollars, according to data from the Bank of Mexico:

  • 2018: 2,776.
  • 2019: 3,030.
  • 2020: 2,777.
  • 2021: 3,443.
  • 2022: 4,173.
  • 2023: 4,539.
  • 2024: 4,600.

A brake servo is a mechanical or pneumatic device that amplifies pedal effort on the wheel brakes.

Automotive investments

Gonzalez mentioned the case of electric brake production as an example in relation to investment arrivals to Mexico in the auto parts sector, in the context of the new tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Investments are still standing. A change of wind is not a change of course. the consulting firm Roland Berger has defined Mexico as an unbeatable place in quality and costs for auto parts production,” he said,

Gonzalez added: “This does not change in the long term, nor does it change in the medium term. There is a storm at the moment, but what we do see is that the investments that were in place continue. There is a wait and see effect for new investments”.

According to INA data, Mexico produced auto parts worth $121.7 billion dollars in 2024, an increase of 1.2% over 2023.

Comparing these two years, Mexico increased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows in the auto parts industry by 21.5%, reaching 2.467 billion dollars.
