México ficará isento de tarifas: Donald Trump

Mexico will be exempt from tariffs until April 2, stated US President Donald Trump on his social network Truth Social.

“After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,,” Trump wrote.

Exempt from tariffs

Hours earlier, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick previewed that move in an interview with CNBC.

On Wednesday, Trump announced a one-month pause on the 25% tariff on U.S. imports of automobiles originating in Canada and Mexico.

However, he set one condition. Those imports must comply with USMCA rules of origin.

The Mexican government has taken several measures to curb drug trafficking into the United States. Among them, it has reinforced the northern border with 10,000 elements of the National Guard. In addition, it has extradited 29 Mexican criminal kingpins to U.S. territory.

In response to the 25% tariff imposed by Trump, Sheinbaum has called for an informative assembly. This will be held in Mexico City’s Zócalo on Sunday, March 9 at 12:00 noon. During the event, she will present the tariff and non-tariff measures that will be applied in the face of this unilateral decision by the U.S. government.
