Schneider National, one of the leading tractor-trailer transportation companies in the United States, increased its holdings in 2023.

With 11,600 tractors at the end of last year, this company focuses on over-the-road freight transportation. 

Trucking accounted for 80.7% of the total cost of moving goods in the United States in 2022. In total, it generated revenues of $940.8 billion, according to the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

Vehicle fleet

As of Dec. 31, 2023, this was Schneider National-owned transportation equipment fleet: 

  • Sleeper cab tractors: 7,200 units.
  • Day cab tractors: 3,100 units.
  • Other tractors (yard tractors, straight trucks and training tractors): 300 units.
  • Trailers: 47,300 units.
  • Containers: 27,400 units.
  • Chassis: 23,800.

In 2022, trucks transported 61.9% of goods between the United States and Canada and 83.5% of trade with Mexico

The total value of these goods was $948 billion, according to the ATA.

As of December 31, 2023, the company operated or leased approximately 240 properties in 40 states and Mexico. 

On a disaggregated basis, from 2022 to 2023, its network increased from 48 to 56 operating centers, 6 to 7 distribution warehouses and 11 to 14 offices, with more than 150 unloading yards. 

In addition, Schneider National physically operates at several customer locations. 

The company’s owned or leased operating centers throughout the United States provide on-site management to support the transportation network for its full truckload and intermodal segments.

Founded in 1935, the company provides full truckload, intermodal and logistics services to a diverse customer base throughout the continental United States, Canada and Mexico. 

Schneider National has agreements with most of the major North American rail carriers to transport containerized freight. 

It also provides customized freight movement, transportation equipment, labor, systems and delivery services tailored to individual customer requirements, generally involving long-term contracts. 

These arrangements are generally referred to as dedicated services and may include multiple pickups and deliveries, local deliveries, cargo handling, specialized equipment and freight network optimization. 

In addition, the company provides comprehensive logistics services with a network of more than 50,000 qualified third-party carriers.
