The countries that export the most grapes in the world are Peru, the Netherlands and Chile, considering figures for 2024.

Logistics play an important role in the export of this fruit: for weeks, grapes must be kept at temperatures close to 0 °C and with controlled atmospheres to preserve their freshness.

Countries that export the most grapes

Peru leads this ranking, with 1,714 million dollars and a year-on-year drop of 2.2 percent.

On the other hand, in second position, the Netherlands recorded a 21.9% growth to 1,148 million dollars.

As examples, in regions such as Ica (Peru), Aconcagua Valley (Chile), Napa (United States) and Xinjiang (China), the cultivation and export of grapes generate thousands of temporary jobs each season.

The following are the countries that export the most grapes, with data for 2024 in millions of dollars and year-on-year growth rates:

  • Peru: 1,714 (-2.2 percent).
  • Netherlands: 1,148 (+ 21.9 percent).
  • Chile: 1,087 (+13.9 percent).
  • China: 1,072 (+21.4 percent).
  • United States: 1,041 (+10.4 percent).
  • Italy: 999 (+11.7 percent).
  • South Africa: 999 (+40.0 percent).
  • Turkey: 731 (+13 percent).
  • Spain: 494 (+38 percent).
  • India: 465 (+21 percent).

U.S. market

Although it is a major producer and the fifth largest exporter, the United States leads the world in grape imports and buys large volumes of fresh grapes, especially from Mexico and Chile, to ensure year-round supply.

Other major importers are Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada

Globally, fresh grape exports totaled $11.4 billion dollars in 2023, according to World Trade Organization (WTO) data.

Mexico dropped out of the Top-10 ranking in 2024, posting a year-on-year decline of 2.2% to US$406 million, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.

During the months of May through July, Mexico exports this fruit to its northern neighbor, before the U.S. harvest begins.

Seedless varieties dominate the international market. Their popularity has driven changes in crops and exports in several countries.
