The maternity policy at Agnico Eagle has undergone recent changes both in Mexico and at the level of its global operations.

This company is the third largest gold producer in the world, with revenues from mining operations of US$6,627 million in 2023.

A maternity leave policy is a plan designed by employers. Its purpose is to allow employees to take time off when they have a child.

The maternity policy at Agnico Eagle

In Mexico, Agnico Eagle took action so that its female employees have the opportunity to develop as mothers and professionals.

This policy goes beyond what is established in the Federal Labor Law, as it allows up to one year of maternity or breastfeeding leave. After the 84 days of leave stipulated by law, the company grants an additional 84 days at 75 percent pay.

Then, optionally, the mother may extend the leave for an additional 197 days. During this time, she will receive all her benefits, although without salary. However, she is guaranteed to be able to return to her job at the end of the period.

A strong maternity policy is an effective strategy for attracting and retaining talent. It also improves productivity, retention and reinforces loyalty to the company.

Agnico Eagle’s policy is not limited to expectant mothers. It was also created to provide support to parents who choose to form a family through adoption, as well as to same-parent families. In these cases, the primary caregiver is eligible to apply for this benefit.

Diversity and inclusion

Agnico Eagle produces precious metals at operations in Canada, Australia, Finland and Mexico.

This Canadian company has a portfolio of exploration and development projects in these countries, as well as in the United States.

In 2023, Agnico Eagle achieved net income of US$1.941 billion and reported assets totaling US$28.685 billion.

Globally, the company has adopted policies of indigenous participation and diversity and inclusion. In 2019, a diversity advisory council was created to strengthen these efforts.

During 2023, various initiatives and action plans focused on diversity and inclusion continued to be implemented. In addition, 2022 saw the launch of the Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship and Development Program, which aims to support women working at Agnico Eagle who aspire to leadership roles.
