Mexico’s leading food and beverage processors by sales are Grupo Bimbo and Coca-Cola FEMSA.
Who is Grupo Bimbo? The world’s largest bakery. How big? The company operates 223 bakeries and plants. Another fact to measure? It has a portfolio of more than 9,000 products.
In turn, Coca-Cola FEMSA does not only sell Coca-Cola. It is certainly the largest bottler worldwide for The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC). But it also, among other businesses, operates the largest convenience store chain in Latin America: OXXO. The parent company has 104,000 employees.
Food and beverage processors
Arca Continental is TCCC’s second largest bottler in Latin America. It also produces snacks under brands such as Bokados, which compete directly with Sabritas.

- Grupo Bimbo: 22,500.
- Coca-Cola Femsa: 13,800.
- Arca Continental: 12,000.
- Sigma Alimentos: 8,500.
- PepsiCo Alimentos: 6,600.
- Gruma: 6,500.
- Grupo Lala: 5,600.
- Nestlé México: 5,000.
- Mondelez Mexico: 3,000.
- Pilgrim’s Pride: 2,100.
U.S. sourcing
A U.S. Department of Agriculture analysis reports that Grupo Bimbo uses U.S. wheat flour, Sigma Alimentos sources U.S.-sourced chicken, pork, turkey and dairy products, and Coca-Cola FEMSA imports U.S.-sourced sucralose and concentrates.
Gruma, owner of Maseca and Mission, is the world’s largest corn flour and tortilla producer.
Grupo Lala has its own refrigerated distribution network and has one of Mexico’s largest logistics networks for dairy products.
Bilateral trade
In 2024, Mexico ranked among the 15 largest economies in the world. Its gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded US$1.8 trillion. In addition, it registered an estimated growth of 1.2% compared to 2023.
On the other hand, agricultural trade between Mexico and the United States reached US$79 billion in 2024. This represented an increase of close to 7% compared to the previous year.
Mexico remained the main market for U.S. agricultural exports, with sales exceeding US$30 billion. Among the products in greatest demand were meat, meat products, dairy products, processed vegetables and confectionery.
