According to Davis Commodities, the size of the rice market in Asia was valued at $220.1 billion in 2021 and is forecast to grow at an annual year-on-year rate of 2.5% from 2022 to 2026.
Rice is the staple food of the population in Asia and the continuous development of rice milling machinery and improved packaging increases the demand for the product in Asia.
In addition, population growth, coupled with rising disposable income, translates into growth in the global market.
Growing demand for specialty rice varieties has increased trade in long-grain rice.
Rice exporters
Changes in consumer lifestyles and eating habits are accelerating the fast food industry market, which, in turn, is driving significant market growth.
After India, the largest rice exporters in 2022 were Thailand ($3,959 million), Vietnam ($2,522 million), Pakistan ($2,353 million), and the United States ($1,704 million).
Looking ahead, the expansion of the food and catering sector is expected to fuel market growth in Asia.
With manufacturers offering a wide range of products, including jasmine, basmati, white, brown, brown and wild rice, among many others, rice is expected to continue to be promoted as a staple food.
Indian exports of all types of rice were 21.4 million tons in 2021.
Indian rice exporters estimate that India’s rice exports could account for more than the combined total exports of Thailand, Vietnam and Pakistan, the next three largest rice exporters.
By 2021, exports of rice other than basmati had reached a record 17.4 million tons, according to India’s official trade statistics.
