Vietnam and the world’s other top 9 fastener exporters

Vietnam ranked first among the world’s top fastener exporters in 2023, with $433 million.

With less than half of that, Bangladesh ranked second ($194 million), followed by Cambodia ($142 million), according to World Trade Organization (WTO) data.

Zippers are key to the textile and apparel industry. Thanks to their design, they make it possible to close garments and accessories securely and easily. Moreover, their use is not limited to fashion. Advances in materials and designs have broadened their applications. Among other goods, they are used in luggage, footwear and industrial products. 

Top fastener exporters in the world in 2023, in millions of dollars:

  1. Vietnam: 443.
  2. Bangladesh: 194.
  3. Cambodia: 142.
  4. Hong Kong: 142.
  5. Indonesia: 138.
  6. China: 135.
  7. Italy: 104.
  8. Mexico: 94.
  9. France: 93.
  10. Turkey: 74.

According to the Euromonitor Report, zipper exports from mainland China maintained steady growth between 2018 and 2022. During this period, the compound annual growth rate reached 11.4 percent. 

However, Fuxing China Group Limited believes that several factors have affected production costs: inflation, rising living standards and a shrinking labor force have led to an increase in the cost of labor within the Chinese textile industry.

Many apparel companies have moved their production from China to Southeast Asia. However, the manufacture of accessories, such as zippers, is still concentrated in China.

As a result, Chinese zipper exports continue to grow. In addition, local competition is driving more manufacturers to expand overseas. At the same time, high-end Chinese brands are gaining a global market due to their quality and recognition.
